To sell on Flipkart, register at seller.flipkart.com using your mobile number, email, GSTIN, pickup address, and bank details. Afterward, create product listings in the 'Seller Hub' and dispatch each order within the specified timeframe. A GSTIN is required for most categories, with books being a notable exception. While creating product listings is free, Flipkart charges a fee on successfully completed orders. This guide covers essential topics for sellers in India, including required documents, account setup, the listing process, order fulfillment options, fees, and information regarding your first order.

What You Need Before Creating a Flipkart Selling Account?

A Flipkart selling account is your seller profile in Seller Hub, the dashboard where you manage listings, orders and payments. Keep these ready before you start:

  • GSTIN: Flipkart checks every GSTIN you enter against the live GST portal database, so the name and address must match your GST record.
  • PAN: a personal PAN for sole proprietors, or the business PAN for companies, LLPs and firms.
  • Bank account: in the name of the business or proprietor, with a cancelled cheque or recent statement.
  • Contact details: a mobile number and email that are not already linked to another Flipkart seller account.
  • Pickup address: the place where your stock actually sits.
  • Entity proof, if applicable: an incorporation certificate, partnership deed or LLP documents.

Whether GST registration is legally required for your product mix depends on your goods and your state. Confirm it with a chartered accountant or the GST portal before you register.

How to Create a Flipkart Seller Account, Step by Step

  1. Start registration. Open seller.flipkart.com, click Start Selling, and verify your mobile number and email with the OTPs Flipkart sends.
  2. Enter your GSTIN and add an e-signature. Flipkart validates the GSTIN automatically. You can draw the signature on screen or upload an image.
  3. Add your pickup address. Check the pin code carefully. A wrong pin code can cause missed pickups and hurt your seller score.
  4. Add bank details. Enter the account number and IFSC code exactly as they appear on your cheque.
  5. Choose how you will list products. You can sell items already on Flipkart or add a new product. Then wait for verification.

Reported approval times vary, from a few hours to about a week. Check your registered email and Seller Hub notifications daily, and don’t plan a launch date around a guess. Flipkart also has a mobile seller app that lets you complete registration and KYC from your phone, according to Shiprocket’s overview.

How to Create a Flipkart Listing?

A Flipkart listing is your offer for one product: price, stock, images and delivery details. Every product in the catalogue has a Flipkart Serial Number (FSN), and your offer on it gets a separate Listing ID.

Choose the right route. If the product already exists on Flipkart, you can attach your offer to the existing FSN. If you are selling a branded product, you need brand approval before attaching to an existing listing. If the product is new, you create a fresh catalogue entry. Single upload or bulk upload. Use a single upload for a few products. For many products, download the category template, fill it in and upload it. Typical mandatory fields include:

  • seller SKU ID
  • MRP and selling price
  • procurement SLA (days to pack and dispatch)
  • stock
  • package weight and dimensions
  • HSN code
  • country of origin
  • manufacturer details

Listings with blank mandatory fields are marked “Failed”, so check every column before uploading.

Images and titles. Seller-integration documentation summarises Flipkart’s image rules as no blurred or pixelated photos and no text or watermarks. Category rules differ, so check the guidelines inside Seller Hub. For titles, a clear pattern works well: brand, product type, key attribute and variant. Avoid vague marketing words.

Package weight matters. Shipping fees depend on weight and delivery zone, so an underestimated weight can turn into a deduction later.

Bulk work is where time disappears. Barmeto offers tools for Indian marketplace sellers that turn product photos into image links, remove photo backgrounds in batches and generate listing text. These can speed up the template-filling stage.

What Flipkart Charges Sellers?

Flipkart’s official fees page gives the formula: total fees equal fixed fee plus commission fee plus shipping fee plus collection fee. In practice:

  • Commission is a percentage that varies by category.
  • Fixed fee is a per-order charge.
  • Shipping fee depends on weight and delivery zone.
  • Collection fee depends on payment mode, such as prepaid or cash on delivery.

Other sources report that 18% GST applies on marketplace fees. These rates change, and Flipkart itself says its published tables are standard rate cards that are subject to change. Check the live rate card in Seller Hub before you set prices. Many new sellers calculate profit using commission alone and miss the other three charges.

Handling Your First Flipkart Orders

  1. Watch for the order. Check Seller Hub and notifications at least daily.
  2. Confirm stock. Cancelling an order you cannot fulfil damages your seller standing.
  3. Pack and print the label and invoice. Match each label to the right SKU.
  4. Mark the order ready and hand it to the courier within your SLA. Late dispatch can lower your seller rating, which in turn can reduce how visible your listings are.
  5. Track delivery and payment. Flipkart collects payments and transfers seller payouts within 7–15 days.

Barmeto’s label cropper trims marketplace label PDFs and sorts them by SKU, which helps once daily orders move beyond a handful. Returns carry reverse shipping fees, and a damaged return may qualify for a Seller Protection Fund claim from Seller Hub.

Common Mistakes New Sellers Make

  • Entering a GSTIN or bank account name that does not match the registration records.
  • Estimating package weight and dimensions.
  • Allowing stock to run out while the listing remains active.
  • Pricing based solely on the commission rate, without accounting for fixed fees, shipping charges, and collection fees.
  • Neglecting to check SKU-level profitability on a weekly basis. Barmeto’s Profit & Loss tool analyzes your marketplace settlement sheets and product costs to reveal which SKUs are generating profit or incurring losses.
